73rd Van Mahotsav: Over 3,000 saplings planted in Kangpokpi's Lhungtin area

Tree saplings were also provided to various chiefs of the adjoining area of Lhungtin subdivisional Headquarters to be planted in their respective villages.

People of Lhungtin Subdivision in Saikul, Kangpokpi District planted more than 3,000 saplings on Thursday as part of the celebration of the 73rd Van Mahotsav in Lhungtin area.

Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing also participated in the tree plantation drive.

Apart from the local MLA, ex-MDC of ADC Sadar Hills Thongjalun Mate, various village chiefs, civil bodies of Saikul, SDO Saikul and officials of the district forest department, led by the DFO and his subordinate officers also took part in the tree plantation drive.

The local MLA, before planting a tree sapling to kick off the plantation drive, said that trees are not only important but essential for living as they provide oxygen, filter carbon dioxide, prevent soil erosion, and maintain ecological balance among many others.

The MLA also said that only planting the saplings will not serve any purpose as lots of activities are required to make the saplings survive and grow while adding that if we failed to survive the saplings our plantation would be a success.

She appealed to the people of the Lhungtin area and village chiefs to consider taking care of the planted saplings as their responsibility toward the environment and provide timely and sincere care to the saplings.

The MLA also urged the people to play a pivotal role in preserving the environment by considering it as their responsibility.
