Noted Assamese writer Atulananda Goswami passed away on Wednesday at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. He was 87.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the bereaved family members on the demise of the eminent writer.
“Saddened by the passing away of noted writer Shri Atulananda Goswami Ji. His works received great acclaim and are admired for their diversity and sensitivity. He made great efforts to popularise Assamese literature in English. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”
According to reports, Goswami was undergoing treatment at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital since last week.
The writer was awarded with the Sahitya Academy Award in 2006 for his novel Seneh Jorir Ganthi.
His other notable works included Namgharia, Hamdoi Pulor Jon, Rajpaat, Polatok and Ashray.
