Northeast's first drone school launched in Guwahati

The initiative to start a remote pilot training school in Assam is a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India a hub for drone technology, state Information Technology Minister Keshab Mahanta said.

First ever drone school in Northeast India approved by the DGCA was inaugurated at Tech City in Guwahati, Assam on Tuesday.

The initiative to start a remote pilot training school in Assam is a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India a hub for drone technology, state Information Technology Minister Keshab Mahanta said at the inaugural function.

The training will be provided by trainers certified by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Its flying ground is located at the Assam Forest School in Jalukbari.

The DGCA gave its approval to Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited to set up the drone school in collaboration with EduRade, a start-up incubated at IIT-Guwahati, and IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, sources said.

 The first DGCA-approved drone training school in India was set up in Haryana in 2021.
