COVID-19 cases in Assam surge to 880 as 24 more test positive

On Thursday, as many as 97 new cases were reported from different parts of the state, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, in a tweet, that the total COVID-19 cases in the state increased to 880 as 24 new cases were reported on Thursday.

Of the new cases, Goalpara reported 11, Nalbari and Tinsukia reported three cases each, Dibrugarh two, Kamrup, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong and Dhubri reported one case each. One case is yet to ascertain, the minister said.

"24 new cases of #COVID19+. 11 Goalpara, 3 Nalbari, 3 Tinsukia, 2 Dibrugarh, 1 each from Kamrup, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong & Dhubri. 1 to ascertain," Sarma tweeted on late Thursday.

As many as 97 new cases were reported from different parts of the state on Thursday, the health minister said. 

Meanwhile, 16 more patients were discharged from hospitals after they tested negative for COVID-19 twice.

Of the new discharged cases, 15 patients were discharged from Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH), Guwahati and one from Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) and one from Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, (JMCH), the health minister said in another tweet. 

Assam now has 770 active cases and 103 recovered cases. While the state has so far reported four COVID-19 deaths, three patients migrated to other states.
