RK Nimai stresses need of youth involvement in arts and culture events

Former commissioner of Arts and Culture RK Nimai called upon the young artists of Manipur to visit the exhibition six-day Retrospective Solo Art Exhibition of National Lalit Kala Akademi Awardee Th Tomba.

Pointing out that young artists of Manipur have a lack of exposure, former commissioner of Arts and Culture, RK Nimai, on Wednesday stressed the need for young enthusiastic participants in events related to arts and culture.

He was speaking during the inauguration of the six-day Retrospective Solo Art Exhibition of National Lalit Kala Akademi Awardee Th Tomba held at I Art Gallery in Imphal West.

As many as 40 paintings of Th Tomba, including the Watercolor Landscape painted in 1954, were displayed during the exhibition.

Expressing regret at witnessing no young artists in the exhibition, he called upon the young artists of the state to visit the exhibition to study the methods of using colour skim, composition of the paintings drawn by Tomba which is considered as a master.Pointing out that there is a lack of youth’s participation in almost every event of arts and culture, he said, “Something is drastically wrong mentally”, and called on the gurus and teachers to encourage the students to participate in such programmes.

He said though some new significance can be witnessed in painting, there is a lack of innovative ideas and sense of aesthetic among the new enthusiasts.

The arts galleries in the state are unable to sustain due to low sales, he said, adding the need to adopt new strategy of marketing by ways of using online platforms, switching the frame with raw canvas and also to catch up with the new changes.

The programme was also attended by director of Arts and Culture and secretary of Manipur State Kala Akademi L Kishwaorjit as presidium member.
