Cyclone Sitrang destroys crop in Chandel, villagers seeks government help

A team of media personnel, along with cyclone Sitrang-affected villagers in Chandel district, visited some villages of the district on Sunday to take stock of the situation.

Many farmlands under Chandel district in Manipur were destroyed by cyclone Sitrang on October 24 and villagers have sought support from the state government to address their plight driven by recent natural phenomenon cyclone Sitrang.

A team of media personnel, along with cyclone Sitrang-affected villagers in Chandel district, visited some villages of the district on Sunday to take stock of the situation.

During the visit, chief of Thorcham village RL Moel, said that the strong storm which occurred during midnight of October 24 had damaged many properties including crops under Chakpikarong subdivision of the district. The most affected villages are Thorcham Khubung Khullen, Phiran Machet, Y Khutha and Khubung Khunou. Maximum crop cultivated in these places was damaged by the storm, the chief added.

He further said that cultivation is the main source of income in these villages and as such, villagers are in such a grim situation due to the damage of their crops.

In view of their plight, the chief requested the state government to take up necessary action in this regard.
