The Patriotic Writers' Forum (PWF) presented R Lathing Tangkhul Literary Award to Nandeibam Pramoda for her short story book ‘Sana Ahingba Machu’ during the celebration of 30th Language Day held at Awang Leikinthabi Santipur Awang, Imphal West on Friday.
During the programme, PWF advisor, Rakesh Naorem said that language day is observed in remembrance of enlisting Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution on this day in 1992. Due to the effort and dedication made by the ancestors, the state could have its own language and script which is a pride of the state. As such, the present generation should consider Manipuri language as their asset.
He further said that the present generation should play important roles in preservation and promotion of Manipuri language. For this, people should be encouraged to speak Manipuri language and inculcate the culture of giving Manipuri names to their children.
The programme was attended by educationist and cultural activist, S Manaoton Singh; PWF president, Naoroibam Khamba Luwang; PWF Guwahati, lifetime member, KC Mangang; and lyricist, Waikhom Bihari as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
