The Nongpok Imphal Loumi Sinmi Apunba Lup (NILSAL) demanded the authority concerned to equally provide urea to all the farmers of the state at the right time.

A release by NILSAL signed by its secretary, Th Romen Singh said that farmers are taking huge risks in doing agricultural activities but they are deprived of their basic rights and failed to get enough agricultural requirements from the state government. The government should not betray them as they play major roles in feeding the people by producing various staple foods.

It further said that though agriculture is the primary source of income of the state, the authority concerned has failed to provide proper irrigation system, fertilisers and other basic requirements at the right time. Besides this, officials of the agriculture department hardly go to the agricultural field to guide the farmers. This has resulted in bringing a gap between the farmers and officials of the concerned department.

Unavailability of basic needs of farming has demotivated the farmers in performing their agricultural activities and this will ultimately lead to dependency on other states, it added.

The association appealed to the authority concerned and ministers to equally distribute the urea fertilisers to every farmer without fail.

NILSAL also appreciated the concerned officials of Imphal East district for distributing urea to each farmer who had proper documents. It would be highly grateful if the state government provides urea in such a manner that it also reaches other farmers of the state, the release added.
