Amid the report of a girl, who was recently discharged after recovering from COVID-19, allegedly committing suicide at her residence, health officials on Sunday said that people, who have completed COVID-19 treatment, must be given support and should not be stigmatised.

 

“They are no longer a source of transmission of the infection to others,” said a release from COVID-19 Common Control Room while pointing out that 20-25 per cent of people who have completed COVID-19 treatment or quarantine may suffer from social stigma.

 

It said that isolation and loneliness during quarantine, can cause long lasting negative consequences on physical and mental well being.

 

“Feeling isolated can lead to poor sleep, poor cardiovascular health, lower immunity, impaired executive functions and depressive symptoms,” the release stated, adding that psychological help and counselling can be accessed through toll free 24x7 helpline number 1800 345- 3818.

 

Meanwhile, as many as 93 more returnees tested COVID-19 positive in Manipur on Sunday, taking the state’s total positive tally to 1,185.

 

The new cases include 10 from Churachandpur, two from Imphal East, one each from Imphal West and Noney, 13 from Kakching, 21 from Kamjong, 14 from Tamenglong, six from Senapati and 25 from Ukhrul, the release stated.

 

With the discharge of 23 persons after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test, the total numbers of active and recovered cases are 730 and 455 respectively. The recovery rate is 38.39 per cent so far, it added.
