With 354 locals receiving the Covid-19 vaccine on Thursday, Malom Khul under Heirok assembly constituency has become the first fully vaccinated village in Thoubal district.
Expressing his delight at Malom Khul being totally vaccinated, local MLA Th Radheshyam presented a sum of Rs 10,000 to each and every member of the village Covid task force.
Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, the local MLA said that the cash prizes came from his monthly salary as MLA and they were presented as a sign of appreciation and encouragement.
Th Radheshyam also said that since the major population of Heirok assembly constituency are farmers, the vaccination count was low due to the people being engrossed in seasonal agricultural activities. And since farming season is over, there will be a marked increase in the numbers of vaccinated people in the assembly constituency, he added.
“According to experts and researchers a third wave of COVID-19 will be extremely perilous, and vaccination is the only way to protect ourselves from this hazardous virus,” the local MLA said.
It may be mentioned here that Malom Khul has a total population of 354 who are above the age of 18. And along with three individuals from the neighboring village, all 354 residents of the village were vaccinated on Thursday making Malom Khul a totally vaccinated village.
The prize distribution event was organised by Yaipha Lamjing Meira Club Malom in association with Malom Khul COVID Task Force. It witnessed the attendance of member, Heirok JP T Nungshi Singh and pradhan nominee of Lourembam GP, Khoirom Sanakhomba along with volunteers of the local club.
