Manipur: Azuram village in Tamenglong district to be rewarded for maximum vaccination

Azuram village at present has 153 eligible persons for vaccination, of which as many as 149 persons have been vaccinated at 97.38 per cent till July 15.

The district task force on COVID-19 chairman Armstrong Pame on Wednesday night announced that a cash prize of Rs 50,000 will be given to Azuram village under Tousem Sub-division of Tamenglong district as reward for vaccinating a maximum number of its villagers.

Deputy commissioner Tamenglong and district task force on COVID-19 chairman Armstrong Pame had earlier announced to reward a village having maximum number of vaccinated residents.

Azuram village at present has 153 eligible persons for vaccination, of which as many as 149 persons have been vaccinated at 97.38 per cent till July 15. 

The remaining two persons had not been vaccinated as per their medical conditions while another two persons were too old and bedridden, Pame added. 

The two Accredited Social Health Activists, ASHAs who had given maximum effort in motivating people to come forward for vaccination will also be rewarded for their exceptional work. They are namely Nambuanliu Moita working in Tamenglong Ward No IV, as a Happy villa ASHA worker; she had mobilised over 300 people for vaccination and Daina who is ASHA facilitator of Tamenglong block who had mobilised over 300 people for vaccination. Both shall be awarded Rs 10,000 each, Armstrong Pame said. 

While congratulating the winners, Armstrong further appealed to all to come forward for vaccination and make the district COVID-19 free.

In the meantime, Azuram village authority Chairman Nathanael Panmei told the Imphal Free Press that Azuram village has no COVID-19 cases till date. 

Narrating the efforts taken to keep the village Covid free, he said that he had announced it in the church a number of times and urged all to get vaccinated. Using his vehicle, he transported his villagers for vaccination at the nearby vaccination site, he added. He even went to his neighbouring villages and gave an awareness campaign on mass vaccination. 

He further thanked the Forest minister Awangbow Newmai, district administration, medical department and SDO Tousem for coming and holding an awareness campaign on mass vaccination at Azuram village.

He said that the winning prize Rs 50,000 would be utilised after a joint meeting with village authority members with youth leaders and church leaders. 

He also appealed to all citizens of Tamenglong to get vaccinated before it is too late.

Meanwhile, Tamenglong on Thursday confirmed 26 more COVID-19 positive cases. With the detection of 26 more COVID-19 positive cases, the positive tally in Tamenglong district has surged to 2,493 while active cases stand at 294. A total of 2,188 have recovered.

Seven COVID-19 positive patients are battling for life at isolation wards while eleven patients succumbed to the infection.
