Khangabok assembly constituency MLA Okram Surjakumar on Friday said that vaccination is the only means to protect oneself from the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
The MLA made the remarks during an inspection at the the mass COVID-19 vaccination programmes which are being organised since the last six days by the COVID Task Force, Athokpam village at all the vaccination centres in the village. The MLA also inspected the fourth vaccination programme conducted at Thoubal Ningombam under Thoubal AC.
During the inspection, MLA Surjakumar distributed COVID-19 protection equipment like mask and sanitizers to the doctors, nurses and volunteers of both the assembly constituencies.
At the sideline of the inspection at Athokpam Makha leikai vaccination centre, the MLA said, "As per the report from WHO and medical experts, new variants of COVID-19 may arise and we all should try to protect ourselves from this existing virus so that new variants will not be attack us. COVID-19 vaccination will be the only protective measures so far. Using face mask, frequently sanitizing and washing hands properly and adhering to SOPs are also the means of keeping away from this dreaded virus."
Surjakumar also lamented that out of 36,000 voters in Khangabok AC only 13,000 people have got themselves vaccinated so far.
"Nearly 22,000 people of Khangabok AC are yet to be vaccinated. We will face a serious problem if the virus is spreading from those non-vaccinated persons. Therefore, all eligible persons of Khanagbok AC should get themselves vaccinated at the earliest," the MLA added.
