Following reports of mass infection, deputy commissioner Thoubal district Rangnamei Rang Peter on Monday issued an order declaring the whole area of Chandrakhong Khul (Village) in Heirok assembly constituency as Containment Zone.
The order from the DC mentioned that there are reports of COVID-19 mass infection in Chandrakhong village with almost every household having members testing positive for the virus. Keeping in view the prevailing situation, and to contain the spread of infections in the area, there is a necessity for declaring the entire village as a containment zone, the order added.
“In accordance with the power bestowed in Para 12 of the Manipur Epidemic Disease, COVID-19 Regulations, 2020, I have, in my position as DC of Thoubal district, declared Chandrakhong village as containment zone,” the order mentioned.
According to the order, every area in Chandrakhong Village has been sealed with immediate effect and no one is allowed to enter or exit the village. COVID-19 active surveillance of the area should also commence immediately with authorities concerned conducting contact-tracing of 30 patients at the earliest, the order added.
Any individual or organisation found violating the containment measures would be regarded as an infringement of law and they might also receive legal punishments under section 51 of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the order from the DC warned.
Meanwhile, MLA of Heirok assembly constituency Th Radheshyam handed over a Vaccination Van to the people of the assembly constituency during a COVID-19 vaccination camp held at Salungpham Kangthokchao primary school on Monday.
He appealed to the people of Heirok to contact at 7005233008 and use the van free of cost for Covid vaccinations or transportation of Covid patients and other related medical complications.
The MLA also expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the people of Salungpham for turning out in huge numbers to get vaccinated during the event which was jointly organised by district administration Thoubal in association with Covid Task Force of Heirok assembly constituency.
“According to experts, the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic would be extremely lethal, and the only way to prevent this from happening is getting Covid vaccines, so let us all get vaccinated and defeat the pandemic,” the MLA added.
Peh village declared containment zone
In view of the rapid increase of COVID-19 positive cases at Peh village in north of Ukhrul district, the district magistrate Ukhrul has sealed, barred entry and exit of population from the containment zone and directed to initiate active surveillance with immediate effect.
According to district surveillance officer Ukhrul, 11 new Covid positive cases were detected on Monday, taking the total positive case to 62, while cumulative positive stands at 730 of which 436 are males and 294 are females.
