Three juveniles among 16 arrested for sharing objectionable content on social media

SP S Ibomcha said it was learnt that members of the said Facebook page created several WhatsApp groups and the members of both platforms uploaded and shared pornographic, private photos and videos of several women.

As many as 16 persons, including three juveniles, were arrested under two different FIRs on charges of uploading and sharing objectionable content such as obscene, vulgar, pornographic and private photos and videos of several women, including minors.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, superintendent of police (SP) S Ibomcha said the 16 persons were arrested under FIR number 90(6)2021 IPS U/S 153-A 1(b)/354-D (ii) 509 IPC and 4/6 IRN Act 1986 registered on June 12 at Imphal Police station. The FIR was lodged against one Facebook page titled “Kanglei Emagi...” created by one Yumnam Piba.

The arrested persons have been identified as one Kongjengbam Arunkumar Singh alias Franky Gamming, 29, son of Kh Mani Singh of Kwakeithel Lamdong Leikai, Imphal West; Victor Sorokhaibam alias Ngongo, 28, son of S Chaoba Singh of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai,  Imphal West; Khuraijam Surjakanta alias Dhoko Singh, 28, son of late Kh Binod Singh of Singjamei Chingamathak; Soibam Singhajit, 28, son of S Jugindro Singh of Singda Kadangban part-I, Imphal West; Oinam Nanao Singh, 33, son of late O Haimo Singh of Top Moirang Kampu; Thokchom Lanchenba Meitei, 18, son of Th Gopiramon Meitei of Lamboi Khongnangkhong Emoinu Shanglen Leirak; Kanchui Mangkung, 27, son of late Jonathan M of Sorbung village, Kamjong and one juvenile.

Among the eight arrested persons, Kanchui Mangkung was arrested on June 14 and had been remanded in judicial custody.

Ibomcha said that during the course of investigation, it was learnt that members of the said Facebook page created several WhatsApp groups and the members of both platforms uploaded and shared vulgar, pornographic, private photos and videos of several women, including minors, with the intention to insult the modesty of women and creating enmity and conflict and terror in the mind of the general public.

Senior police officer further said cyber crime police station/ CID (CB) Manipur also registered two FIRs against the Facebook page and against the activity of sharing pornographic materials in WhatsApp groups respectively.

Cyber Crime police arrested eight persons including two juveniles. Also the account creator of the “MEGA” cloud account where many pornographic materials, including child pornographic content are stored, has been arrested.

The arrested persons are identified as Konjengbam Karorchandra Khaba, 27, son of K Ibotombi Khaba of Ward No VIII Kongkham Makha Leikai PO and Police Station, Nambol; Abujam Shatyajit Singh, 27, son of A Manaoton Singh of Changangei Maning Leikai; Elangbam Birjit Meitei, 26 son of E Bijenkumar Meitei of Irilbung Kalika, Imphal East; Aribam Bonny Sharma, 34, son of late A Sanahal Sharma of Keishamthong Ahanthem Leikai; Mingchatlen Laishram, 22, son of L Raikumar Singh of Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai; Angom Roshan Singh, 28, son of late A Heramot Singh of Sekmaijing Thongam Leikai and another two juveniles, said Ibomcha.

The superintendent of Police said that Mingchatlen Laishram was remanded in five-day police custody after he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West. The remaining members of the said Facebook page and WhatsApp group will be arrested soon, he added.
