Preparations have commenced for the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination programme in Thoubal to be intensified from Friday onwards in order to cover a wider range of the population.
Elected persons at the Gram Panchayat level, pradhans, and ward members will undertake a major role in the intensified mass vaccination programme, while the expenses will reportedly be covered by the district administration.
In this regard, a meeting of district level officers with DC, Thoubal Rangnamei Rang Peter as the chairperson, was held at the conference hall of the DC on Tuesday.
During a media interaction after the meeting, Rangnamei Rang Peter said that vaccinations are the only means of protection against the COVID-19 virus, and it is imperative that every citizen gets vaccinated. He also implored the masses to come out voluntarily and get vaccinated during the mass COVID-19 vaccination drive.
Chief medical officer of Thoubal Dr Y Nokul, who also attended the meeting, pointed out that the turnout of people at the vaccination camps in the past two-three days were rather less. “As a result, the state government has provided instructions to intensify the vaccination drive,” he continued, adding an appeal to people of Thoubal district to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The meeting held on Tuesday was also attended by the SDOs of Thoubal and Lilong along with the superintendent of District Hospital Thoubal amongst others.
