Mantripukhri and Keithelmanbi Battalions under the aegis of IGAR (South) organised a tree sapling plantation drive in the vicinity of Imphal from June 9-12 towards promoting the ‘Go Green Initiative’, stated a release issued by IGAR (South) on Saturday.
The tree plantation drive was conducted with an aim to control global warming, make environment pollution free and spread awareness on the importance of keeping a clean environment, it stated. As part of the initiative, saplings were planted by the troops of Assam Rifles. During the event, the troops were educated about the importance of trees in maintaining ecological equilibrium, it added.
Meanwhile, Chandel and Moreh Battalions under the aegis of IGAR (South) promoted Covid Appropriate Behaviour and conducted a tree plantation drive in Beru Anthi village, Chandel on 12 June, it stated.
Due to increasing cases of COVID-19 pandemic and rapid deforestation, the significance of social distancing, proper sanitisation and benefits of tree plantation for maintaining the ecological ecological equilibrium was explained to the villagers, it stated.
As part of the initiative, besides planting the saplings, masks, sanitisers and other essential items were provided to the villagers. The village authorities expressed their gratitude and appreciated the endeavour of Assam Rifles for initiating such an informative event, it added.
