Several more student bodies across Northeast India have condemned the recent bomb attack on the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) headquarter at DM College campus in Imphal West.

The North East Students' Organisation (NESO) representing eight major students groups in the eight North Eastern states in a release expressed shock and condemned the dastardly act in the strongest term.

The NESO demanded that the authorities concerned should do everything possible to book the perpetrators of the June 8 bomb attack.

As a premier student organisation of Manipur, AMSU has taken up important and sensitive issues for the protection and uplift of the indigenous peoples of Manipur and this might be one of the causes that prompted those responsible for the attack to carry out the heinous act with the intention to intimidate the AMSU, the NESO stated.

"However such an attack will not in any way deter the AMSU but instead this will only strengthen their determination to keep on fighting for the rights and protection of the indigenous peoples of the state," it added.

NESO extends full support and solidarity to AMSU to move forward in whatever it is trying to achieve for the larger interest of the indigenous peoples of the state, the release further stated.

NESO comprises of the Khasi Students' Union (KSU), the All Assam Students' Union (AASU), the Naga Students' Federation (NSF), the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the Twipra Students' Federation (TSF), the Garo Students' Union (GSU), the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) and the AMSU.

In another release, the All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) stated that such an unfortunate act had never taken place in the history of the student's society. It condemned the act in the strongest term and said such also hurt the sentiment of the students and terrorised the students.

AMSU has been working for the welfare of the student's society and have taken part in different social issues for more than 55 years, it stated and wished AMSU a great and better future in taking up different developmental works.

AAMSU appealed against such a condemnable act on any student bodies in the future.

The Manipur College Students' Union (MCSU) also termed the attack as most unfortunate and condemned the act in the strongest terms in a release. It said carrying out such an attack on a students body which has been serving the people of Manipur for many decades is an immature act which is against the people of Manipur.

Urging those individuals or groups responsible for the attack to not repeat such acts in the future, MCSU appealed to the state authority to nab the culprit at the earliest and ensure punishment as per law.

On Tuesday at around 7.20 pm, a hand grenade exploded in the campus of the AMSU headquarter located inside the campus of DM University, Imphal West. However, no casualty was reported in the explosion.

According to a CCTV footage that went viral on social media, a man driving a moped was seen speeding away after hurling the grenade at the AMSU office.

Till the filing of this report, no report of arresting the culprits by the police has been received and no groups or individuals have owned up responsibility for the attack.
