As the demand of oxygen for treatment of COVID-19 patients has been increasing exponentially, the Manipur government is all geared up to install 10 KL Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) Cryogenic Tank and Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) Oxygen Plants at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal.

Though the state government has taken up various steps to meet the oxygen demand in the state such as developing an oxygen plant and procuring oxygen cylinders from outside the state, the number of oxygen dependent COVID-19 patients is still high. As the oxygen supply could not be fulfilled, many videos are getting viral in social media and even reported acute shortage of oxygen supply in the hospital.

To mitigate the issues, the health department, under the supervision of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, has taken up steps to install 10 KL LMO Cryogenic Tank and PSA Oxygen Plants.

The chief minister, in his Facebook page, stated that “LMO 10 KL tank which has a storage capacity of approximately 1,300 jumbo cylinders has been dispatched from Gujarat on May 11 for JNIMS Imphal. The tank is likely to reach here by May 19.”

CM Biren also said that there will be two PSA oxygen plants and each plant has the capacity of producing 200 cylinders per day.
