Manipur's COVID-19 tally crosses 38000-mark with highest single-day spike of 726 positive cases

Manipur's Coronavirus confirmed tally soared to 38,322 on Friday with the highest single-day spike of 726 COVID-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours, according to the state health department.

With these new positive cases, the number of COVID-19 active cases in the state surged to 5,898 while the death toll mounted to 552 with 16 more fatalities, a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

The new COVID-19 positive cases included 716 from the general population and 10 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force, the release stated.

Among the new COVID-19 positive cases from the general population, Imphal West reported the highest number of COVID-19 new cases with 290 cases, followed by Imphal East with 192 and Bishnupur with 57 cases. The other new cases included 49 from Churachandpur, 33 from Kakching, 11 each from Senapati and Noney, nine from Ukhrul, five each from Kangpokpi and Chandel, four from Tamenglong and two from Jiribam, as per the release.

Of the COVID-19 fatalities recorded on Friday, nine deaths were reported from Imphal West, four from Imphal East, two from Bishnupur and one from Churachandpur, it stated.

The release further stated that the cumulative number of COVID-19 recovered cases reached 31,872 with 381 new recoveries. The state's recovery rate is 83.16 per cent, it added.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,107 D type oxygen cylinders and 516 B type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of the state in a span of 24 hour, according to the release.

The total number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 in Manipur reached 2,96,894, the release added.
