AIR Imphal programme executive Bijaya Yumlembam succumbs to COVID-19

Bijaya Yumlembam passed away on Wednesday at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol where she was undergoing treatment.

Programme executive of All India Radio, Imphal Bijaya Yumlembam succumbed to Covid-19 on Wednesday afternoon.

She passed away at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol where she was undergoing treatment. She joined All India Radio as Transmission Executive on April 19, 1989 and was promoted to Programme Executive in 2003. 

Before joining AIR Imphal, she was employed there initially as a casual announcer of Western Music. Bijaya also worked at AIR Silchar soon after she got her promotion.

She had looked after varied sections of programmes such as music, Naharolgi Khonjel (Youth Section), Wari, English Talk, Women's Programme among others. She was the official in charge at the Asian Broadcasting Corporation Folk Music Festival at Colombo, Sri Lanka where she accompanied Manipuri folk singer Mangka.
