Himanta Biswa Sarma to be new CM of Assam

Outgoing CM Sarbananda Sonowal proposed the name of the NEDA chief as leader of BJP Legislature Party at the legislature party meeting held in Guwahati on Sunday.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to be the new chief minister succeeding Sarbananda Sonowal, sources said.

Outgoing CM Sarbananda Sonowal proposed the name of the NEDA chief as leader of BJP Legislature Party at the legislature party meeting held in Guwahati on Sunday, the sources said.

Earlier in the day, Sarbananda Sonowal tendered his resignation as the chief minister of Assam to the Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi at the Raj Bhavan, Guwahati.

"With the blessings of the people, tendered my resignation as the Chief Minister of Assam to the Hon'ble Governor Shri @jagdishmukhi ji in Raj Bhavan, Guwahati," Sonowal tweeted.

Meanwhile, the BJP Assam Pradesh congratulated and extended its best wishes to Sarma on being elected the leader of the party and the new CM of Assam.

"Congratulations and best wishes to Dr @himantabiswa Ji for being elected as the leader of @BJP4Assam legislative party & the new Chief Minister of Assam. May Assam rise to new heights of development under your able leadership," the BJP Assam tweeted.
