Chakhaogi Wathok, a short Manipuri film, was released on Saturday by Human Rights Alert (HRA) and Protection Committee on Rights to Public Distribution. The film is aimed at spreading awareness on people’s rights and the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
The film was released at Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) conference hall in Imphal and is produced by HRA and Protection Committee on Rights to Public Distribution.
During the release function, HRA executive director Babloo Loitongbam said that a book already released based on the judgment of the Manipur High Court on NFSA has not been able to fully educate the people on the issue of food security.
“To fill in this gap and for wider circulation and reach, this short film based on the rights to food security was produced”, he said. Babloo Loitongbam feels that the film as a medium could truly educate the people.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic related lockdown, it was difficult to produce the film. However, with the help of MSLSA and Protection Committee on Rights to Public Distribution System, Langthabal, this short film was successfully made” the HRA executive director said.
On the occasion, he also expressed gratitude to the director Homeshori and her team for their dedication.
The film release function was attended by MSLSA member secretary Gaiphulsillu Golmei; team of actors who played key roles in the film and advocates who were supporting the cause through filing of PIL on NFSA before the High Court of Manipur.
