Assam's COVID-19 tally surges to 2,33,453

As many as 2,384 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Assam on Friday.

The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Assam has reached 2,33,453 with the addition of 2,384 new COVID-19 positive cases on Friday, the state health department said.

Assam also recorded 12 more COVID-19 related deaths on Friday, taking the state's death toll to 1,172, the state health department posted on Twitter.

As per the update by the state health department, a total of 72,405 COVID-19 tests were conducted in a span of 24 hours, of which 2,984 tested positive for the viral infection. Kamrup Metro recorded the highest number of new positive cases at 883, followed by Kamrup Rural at 159, Dibrugarh at 154 and Nagaon at 100. The state's COVID-19 positivity rate as of Friday was 3.29 per cent.

With the new positive cases, the number of COVID-19 active cases in the state also increased to 12,595, it added.

Meanwhile, 348 more patients were discharged on Friday. With a recovery rate of 93.53 per cent, the cumulative number of COVID-19 recovered cases reached 2,18,339.
