A combined team of Moreh police and commandos recovered 15 soap cases of suspected brown sugar on Saturday, police sources said.
According to police sources, the team conducted frisking and checking of vehicles at the check post of Moreh Police near Kongdong Lairembi of Chikim Village. At around 3:30 pm the combined team stopped one Maruti Alto Car (Silver Colour) bearing registration number MN06 LA 9082 and the joint team seized the brown sugar weighing 216 grams approximately.
One person identified as Md Sabir Ahamed, 21, son of Md Ibocha of Lilong Haoreibei Turel Ahanbi Ubak Thong Makha, PO/PS Thoubal district was also arrested at the spot for possessing the suspected brown sugar, which was concealed inside the dashboard of the said Maruti Alto Car, it added.
A case has been registered at Moreh Police Station for further actions. The seized brown sugar is expected to cost Rs 43 lakh in the international market, the police added.
