Mizoram COVID-19 cases rise to 121

Four more people tested positive for coronavirus in Mizoram since Monday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Mizoram rose to 121 on Tuesday after four more people tested positive since Monday.

Mizoram reported the first case of COVID-19 on March 24. Since the discharge of the first case from the hospital he was treated, Mizoram enjoyed the green zone status until stranded people started returning to the state in May.

Meanwhile, an official source from the Health department said that the four fresh cases are among those 705 samples tested at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) in the past 24 hours. Three females are among the four fresh cases of COVID-19.

Among the four new COVID-19 cases reported, three are Delhi returnees while the remaining one is a Maharashtra returnee. They are asymptomatic, according to the official source. All of them are in the age group of 24 to 30, the source added.

Meanwhile, Mizoram has tested 5,370 samples from Zoram Medical College till date.

It can be mentioned here that, as many as 8,884 people are in quarantine centres across Mizoram. They are in institutional and community quarantine centres. Many people are also under home quarantine and in hotels. All of them are being monitored by the concerned authorities to make sure that no one violates the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), according to the source.

Meanwhile, about 2,000 stranded people will be returning soon to the State, according to an official source.

It can also be noted here that inmates who have completed their quarantine periods have to prolong their stay in quarantine centres in Mizoram as they are still yet to receive the sample test results.

The Mizoram Health minister Dr R Lalthangaliana said that the testing process could not be expedited as of now because installation of automated RNA extractor machines is still underway.
