The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has decided to suspend its ongoing stir over the demand of early date for ADCs election after inking a Memorandum of Understanding on Sunday with the government.
The MoU was signed after thorough discussion in a meeting between chief minister N Biren Singh and the representatives of ATSUM in the presence of PHED, Printing and Stationary Minister, Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Sericulture Minister and TA&H, Transport, GAD Minister at the office chamber of chief minister this morning at around 11:30 am.
The ATSUM team and its federating units were led by president ATSUM Seiboi Haokip and general secretary ATSUM SR Andria.
ATSUM information secretary Khaiminlen Doungel said that after thorough discussion in the meeting, it was agreed that the state cabinet will take a decision by March 31 on the issue of conducting ADC elections and related matters.
It also appointed PHED Minister Losii Dikho, TA and Hills Minister Vungzagin Valte to coordinate with all concerned for the same, he added.
He further said that conforming to the memorandum of understanding reached between representatives of ATSUM and the state government and taking into consideration the seriousness of the state government's assurance to take decision on the issue of conducting impending ADC Election by March 31, 2021, the ongoing indefinite economic blockade along National Highways and a ban on construction of national project has been suspended.
The MoU also stated that the meeting took note of the various issues involved in the context of the evolving scenario arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic and also the related demand for creation of Autonomous District Councils for the newly created districts from other stakeholders.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by president ATSUM Seiboi Haokip and general secretary ATSUM SR Andria on the part of ATSUM and secretary to chief minister, Manipur N Geoffrey on the part of the state government.
Meanwhile, the indefinite economic blockade imposed along the National Highway 2 in Kangpokpi district by KSO Sadar Hills endorsing the ATSUM stir was also suspended following the MoU signed between the state government and ATSUM.
