SVHCP ties up with community group to conduct HCV screening under NVHCP

Following the tie up, SVHCP and CoNE have jointly conducted a Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) screening programme for the marginalised community at the conference hall of Old CMO office Bishnupur on Wednesday.

The State Viral Hepatitis Control Program (SVHCP), a unit of State Health Society, National Health Mission, Manipur has tied up with Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE) with an aim to generate demand for testing and treatment under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP), CoNE stated on Wednesday.

Following the tie up, SVHCP and CoNE have jointly conducted a Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) screening programme for the marginalised community at the conference hall of Old CMO office Bishnupur on Wednesday, a release issued by president, Nalinikanta Rajkumar stated.

The one-day ‘Outreach Programme for Demand Generation, Testing and Treatment of Viral Hepatitis through Awareness and Screening’ was attended NVHCP State nodal officer Dr RK Rosie Devi, Bishnupur district, chief medical officer Dr Ningthoujam Gojendro and Bishnupur District Hospital medical superintendent Laishram Binoi Singh as presidium members during its inaugural function, it stated.

Altogether 60 people took part during the awareness session, of which 41 of them were screened for HCV during the programme, the release stated. Of the total screened, 27 of them were found to be HCV antibody reactive, it stated, adding that the blood samples of those found reactive were further collected for HCV RNA confirmation and deposited at the Model Treatment Centre (MTC) located at JNIMS.

Dr RK Rosie while providing an overview of the services available under the national programme earlier during the inaugural function said that apart from screening on HCV, HBV screening has also started under the national programme and its treatment will also be initiated very soon, it added.

She further informed that for this year under the aegis of the state government, a total of 4 HCV awareness and screening camps will be organised in four different sites across the state, the release stated. The first one has been held today here in collaboration with CoNE which has gained enough experience in conducting HCV awareness and screening camp, it added.

CoNE president RK Nalinikanta who was also present during the function elaborated on the importance of community involvement in mobilizing high risk groups for organising camp so as to help the government's effort of elimination by 2030, it stated. He further encouraged the community to come forward for voluntary testing, it added.

CoNE is a member of the State Programme Steering Committee which was formed on October 27, 2018 as per guidelines of NVHCP, it added.
