Under the 'Poppy Free Zogam' initiative of ZYA, approximately 15 acre of poppy plantation was destroyed

A combined team of Zomi Youth Association (ZYA), Churachandpur police, Assam Rifles, IRB and Forest department on Wednesday destroyed poppy plantation at Tuinuphai village under Sangaikot sub-division.

Under the 'Poppy Free Zogam' initiative of ZYA, approximately 15 acre of poppy plantation was destroyed. It was led by ZYA president, Lianzalal in collaboration with the security force led by additional SP, Lawrence Munluo and SDPO of Churachandpur, Bijoy. SDC, Jangminlun Luphong represented the District Administration at the destruction site.

The ZYA president said that they have a policy to free the areas of poppy cultivation which included last year’s massive destruction of poppy plantation at Kangkap area of Guite Kual under Suangdoh sub-division. He further urged all to refrain from poppy cultivation for a healthier society.

Over 100 people with 80 police personnel were involved in the poppy destruction that was carried out around 11 am on Wednesday.
