A 10-year-old girl died on the spot when a Tata truck ran over her on Sunday at around 6:30 am along the road connecting Thoubal and Mayang Imphal at Irong Chesaba Makha Leikai under the jurisdiction of Mayang Imphal Police Station.
The deceased was identified as one Misba, daughter of Mohammad Abir Khan of Irong Chesaba Makha Leikai.
The incident happened when the Tata truck bearing registration number MN03-0965 speeding from Thoubal side hit Misba who came riding in a bicycle. She was on her way to attend her tuition while the fatal mishap happened.
Police have picked up the body of Misba and kept at JNIMS morgue for post mortem. The driver of the truck has been arrested and police have filed a case regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, condemning the incident and alleging that the road mishap happened as the concerned contractor does not maintain quality work at the ongoing work along the road stretch connecting Thoubal and Mayang Imphal, Irong Chesaba Development Forum (ICDF) has put an indefinite halt on the road repairing work.
During a press meet held at Irong Chesaba on Sunday, general secretary of ICDF, Md Tarif Khan informed that the road repairing work will be banned until the contractor has a talk with ICDF and elderly people of the region regarding the issue.
He also warned that ICDF along with the general public will launch a democratic form of protests, if the concerned contractor and related department fail to look into the matter before February 10.
