Two persons have been apprehended with suspected brown sugar weighing 839 grams at Kondong Lairembi Check Post on Thursday.
They have been identified as Zamkhosei,34, son of Hemkholun of T Muljol village, Churachandpur district and Vakneijem Gangte, 38, wife of late Lientinmang Gangte of Canan Veng Churachandpur district. The contraband belonged to Zamkhosei.
According to a report, a combined team of Moreh Police led by S Syed Ershad Ali and commando Moreh post conducted frisking and checking at Kondong Lairembi Police check post under the command of additional superintendent of police (operations and MRH), M Amit Singh and under the overall supervision of superintendent of police, Tengnoupal, Th Vikramjit Singh.
At around 1pm, the team intercepted a multi-utility van (Maruti Eeco) bearing registration number MN06LA 7314 coming from Moreh towards lmphal along NH-102.
On checking the said vehicle, 70 packets of suspected brown sugar (44 packets in three soap cases and 26 packets without soap case) weighing about 839 grams were recovered from inside the back seat of the vehicle. The duo have been arrested and handed over to Moreh police station for further legal action.
