Security beefed up, search operations intensified ahead of Republic Day celebration in Manipur
Cordon and search operations were conducted in Thoubal, Kakching and others on Thursday by a combined security force.

As a part of the security measures ahead of the upcoming Republic Day celebration on January 26, search operation and verification have been intensified at various places in and around Manipur's capital, Imphal.
On Tuesday a hand grenade was hurled at the state governor's bungalow which failed to explode. The CCTV footage showed two individuals involved in the incident but they are yet to be arrested, police sources said.
Till date, no underground organisation or any individual has claimed responsibility for the attack, the sources said.
Meanwhile, a combined team of district police and commando, Thoubal conducted a cordon and search operation at Thoubal Moijing Awang Leikai on Thursday.
The operation was conducted from 5:45 am to 7:30 am. During the operation about 170 houses were searched and a total of 500 persons were verified. In the operation, no person was detained.
The combined team was led by officer-in-charge of Thoubal Police Station and officer-in-charge of District Commando, N Tikendra.
Similar cordon and search operation was conducted by a team of District Commando, Kakching, assisted by a lady police commando at two different places of Kakching district.
The team conducted the cordon and search operation in and around Kakching Turel Wangma near DSA ground on Thursday at around 5:30 am to 7 am.
During the operation, 100 houses were searched and all the individuals were verified with necessary documents like Aadhaar and voter (epic) identity cards. No individuals were detained during the operation.
Another commando team, assisted by lady district commando conducted similar cordon and search operation in and around Wabagai Bazaar from 3:30 pm to 4 pm on the same day.
In the operation, 150 persons were verified with relevant identification documents, however no individuals were detained.
Both the operations were conducted under the command of officer-in-charge of District Commando, Md Abash Khan and under the supervision of additional SP, (Ops), Kh Manihar. Similar operations will be continued in the days to come, the police sources added.
