COVID-19 positive cases in Mizoram rise to 104

Mizoram Health minister Dr R Lalthangliana said that the state government will set up a Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) soon.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Mizoram has risen to 104 with two more fresh cases reported on Friday. A male and female were tested positive for COVID-19 at Zoram Medical College  (ZMC) in Aizawl in the last 24 hours. They were among the 176 samples tested. Both of them are returnees.

With this latest update on COVID-19 status of Mizoram, the state has now 103 active cases.
 
Meanwhile, Mizoram Health minister Dr R Lalthangliana said that the state government had "successfully" installed two automated RNA extractor machines at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), which will be operational soon to accelerate the testing capacity of the two installed RT-PCR machines in order to increase the number of sample testing.

The health minister then said that a RT-PCR machine bought with the money donated by a trader had reached Aizawl on Thursday.

In the past few days, the Mizoram government has been taking up measures to consolidate and boost health infrastructure in the state.

According to the Health minister, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved to set up a VRDL in the State. At the moment, Mizoram has two RT-PCR machines to test samples for COVID-19. Both the RT-PCR machines are at the Zoram Medical College (ZMC) in Aizawl which has been designated as a COVID-19 hospital of Mizoram.

It can be mentioned here that two Truenat machines have been installed at Lunglei Civil Hospital with approval of ICMR in order to test samples for COVID-19.

With the enhancement of measures with regard to the health infrastructure in the State, the Mizoram government is hopeful of testing around 1000 samples for COVID-19 on a daily basis.
