Minister of TA and Hills, Vungzagin Valte launched the historic COVID-19 vaccine at Churachandpur district on Saturday, in the presence of Churachandpur MLA V Hangkhanlian; Singat MLA Ginsuanhau Zou; respective DCs of Churachandpur and Pherzawl; top police officials; and CMO and his staff in the medical department.

After launching the vaccine, a one-minute silence was observed to pay homage to the departed souls due to COVID-19.

The minister said that the effort of the medical department amidst various hardships during the pandemic is laudable. While congratulating the inventors of the vaccine, he said that the vaccination drive will not cover people below 18 years of age and those who are symptomatic as per guidelines. He also stated that ‘Covishield’ is one of the best and safest vaccines.

V Hangkhanlian said that the invention of vaccines in India shows that Indian medical scientists are no less than their other counterparts elsewhere. He further appreciated the doctors of Churachandpur district who have made available an operation theatre only for COVID-19 patients.

Ginsuanhau Zou said, “We mourn for those who had lost their lives due to COVID-19. I pray that no more lives are lost again as this vaccination drive has started.”

After the launching programme, the vaccine was injected to the CMO and MS of Churachandpur District Hospital and the DFWO, followed by other medical staff numbering 100 as per guideline. CMO Dr VC Pau said that they had volunteered to take the first dose due to the fact that some people are apprehensive of the newly invented vaccine. The vaccine is safe and presented with a certificate by the district in-charge minister, he added.

Meanwhile, along with the rest of the country, the COVID-19 vaccine was formally launched at Thoubal district on Saturday by the deputy commissioner, N Bandana Devi at the district hospital of Thoubal.

Altogether, 3,032 healthcare workers were registered for the first phase of vaccination in Thoubal district. Out of which, 393 beneficiaries are from the district hospital, Thoubal, and 100 beneficiaries will be vaccinated per session.

Speaking at the launching programme, the deputy commissioner said that vaccines are well-proof and need not be feared. People should give support in the vaccination programme, she added.

The programme was also attended by SP of Thoubal, S Ibomcha and CMO of Thoubal, Dr N Jayentakumar.
