Manipur State Kala Akademi condoles demise of Aribam Chitreshwar Sharma

The Manipur State Kala Akademi condoled the demise of eminent Manipuri scholar and writer, Aribam Chitreshwar Sharma, who passed away on December 26.

Secretary of Manipur State Kala Akademi L Kishworjit Singh said in a statement that the demise of Chitreshwar is a big loss for Manipuri culture and literature.

Chitreshwar Sharma, born in 1939 at Khongman Manjil, Imphal was a multifaceted personality who was widely respected for his profound knowledge in the realm of Manipuri Nata Sankirtana, a field in which he had authored four books. He also edited a rare book on Aragphan, published by Manipur State Kala Akademi entitled ‘Arangpham Amasung Masigi Chatnarol’, Singh stated.

Singh further said that as a writer, Chitreshwar excelled in all genres of creative literature as well as old Manipuri language and literature. He was bestowed with the Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel ‘Tharoshangbi’ (1992) and his short story ‘Luthakhraba Hinao’ won him Manipur State Kala Akademi (1989).

He was honoured with many other literary awards, including Manipur State Award for Literature (2017-2018) and beyond this, he was also a proficient painter and sculptor, Singh added.
