Manipur Police destroyed 1,315 acres of poppy plantation in crop year 2020-2021

Destruction of the poppy plantation was initiated as a part of the state government’s ‘War on Drugs’ mission in order to root out drugs for a drug-free Manipur.

Manipur Police Department has destroyed about 1,315 acres of poppy plantations since September till date and similar drive will be continued to destroy more poppy plantations.

According to a report from Manipur police, in the crop year 2020-2021, the state police department carried out the destruction of poppy plantation drives in various districts of Manipur.

NAB officials earlier stated that the period from September to next year’s March is termed as a ‘crop year’.

In the ongoing crop year, 910 acres of poppy plantation has been destroyed in Ukhrul district; 190 acres in Senapati district; 120 acres in Kangpokpi district; 50 acres in Churachandpur district; 30 acres in Tengnoupal district and 15 acres in Imphal East district.

Destruction of the poppy plantation was initiated as a part of the state government’s ‘War on Drugs’ mission in order to root out drugs for a drug-free Manipur. As a part of the mission, various drives have been conducted by different district police supported by local bodies.

Meanwhile, a team of Tengnoupal district police; NAB Manipur; SDO of Tengnoupal and staff of Horticulture and Forest department destroyed about 30 acres of poppy cultivation at Machi hill range on Tuesday. The drive was led by SP of Tengnoupal, Th Vikramjit Singh and SP of NAB, Watham Basu. The drive was started on Sunday and will continue further.
