Manipur restricts Christmas and New Year gatherings to 50 pc of hall capacity

Night curfew will be imposed from 12 midnight to 4 am on the intervening nights of December 23 and 24, December 24 and 25 and December 31 and January 1.

Christmas and New Year gatherings in Manipur have been restricted up to 50 per cent of the hall capacity with a ceiling of 200 persons in closed spaces with strict adherence to COVID appropriate behaviour.

The State Executive Committee of the State Disaster Management Authority stated in an order on Tuesday that gatherings of only 50 per cent of the hall capacity with strict adherence to COVID-19 SOP will be permitted.

The order by chief secretary and chairman, State Executive Committee, Rajesh Kumar also stated that community feasting should be avoided during the festivals. It stated that night curfew will be imposed from 12 midnight to 4 in the morning on the intervening nights of December 23 and 24, December 24 and 25 and December 31 and January 1.

For other days, night curfew will be imposed from 10 pm to 4 am.Other restrictions notified by the Home department will remain in force.

Meanwhile, for the second consecutive day, Manipur reported no COVID-19 death and the daily new COVID-19 positive cases continued to fall for the third consecutive day on Tuesday to 39, according to the state health department data.

Reflecting a seemingly slowing down of the COVID-19 spread, the state reported 38 new COVID-19 positive cases on Monday and 48 new positive cases on Sunday.

In the past twenty-four hours, 39 persons from the general population were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases, while the cumulative number of deaths remained 337, according to the release from the state COVID-19 Common Control Room.

The new positive cases from the general population included 21 from Imphal West, eight from Imphal East, one each from Thoubal and Senapati, three from Bishnupur, two from Kakching and three from Churachandpur. All are locals without any significant travel history. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated.

Meanwhile, the total number of discharged persons is 149, taking the total number of recovered cases to 25,928, the release stated.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 27.723 (General Population - 24,390 and Central Security Personnel 3,333). The number of active cases is 1.458 (General Population 1,310 and Central Security Personnel - 148). The recovery rate is 93.52 per cent.

The state health services appealed to the public to dial - 104 Manipur Mental Health Helpline from 9 am to 9 pm, for mental wellbeing.

It also requested all international travellers who travelled to the state from November 25 to December 23, 2020 to dial the Common Covid Control Room No. 18003453818 or respective District Surveillance Officers for further surveillance and monitoring.
