The North East Students' Organisation (NESO), an umbrella organisation of major student bodies of northeastern states, will be observing ‘black day’ on December 11 in all important places of northeastern states.

NESO secretary-general Sinam Prakesh stated in a release that the black day observation is to send a message to the Centre that the northeastern states are against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 which was passed in the Rajya Sabha on December 11, 2019.

There will be a display of black flags and black banners in all important places of seven northeastern states on the day, the NESO said.

The Centre passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, despite relentless opposition from northeastern states. Hence, NESO had declared December 11 as a black day in Northeast since 2019, the release added.

Black day is observed to remind northeastern people of yet another political injustice that the Centre perpetrated on the indigenous people of Northeast India, the release added.
