COVID-19 in Manipur: Positive cases rise to 172

Of the total 172 COVID-19 positive cases reported so far, 120 cases are active, state health department said.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur rose to 172 as 15 more persons tested positive for the virus, the state health department said on Sunday.

Of the 15 new cases, 12 cases were confirmed at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) of RIMS while three were confirmed at the VRDL of JNIMS, Imphal late Saturday.

Thoubal district reported six cases, five males and one female; Ukhrul five cases, two males and three females; Kangpokpi three cases, all females, and one male from Imphal West tested positive for the virus, the state health department said. 

Eight of them had recently returned to the state from Mumbai by train while the other seven are Delhi returnees of which six had returned by air and one by bus, state health department spokesperson Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said in a release.

Of the total 172 COVID-19 positive cases reported so far, 120 cases are active, Dr Mangang stated.

Their health conditions are stable. They are being shifted to Covid Care Facility at RIMS and JNIMS. All precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, Dr Mangang added.

On Saturday, 11 persons, five females and six males, were discharged from RIMS after they tested negative for the virus. With the new discharged cases, the total recovered cases rose to 52, the health department said, adding recovery rate in the state is 36.36 per cent. 

A total of 25 COVID-19 cases were reported in Manipur on Saturday, taking the total cases to 157.
