All Lilong Youth Development Committee calls for general strike

The ALYDC demanded clarification from Chief Minister N Biren and BJP Manipur Pradesh president on the BJP ticket not being handed to any of the intending candidates in Lilong AC.

All Lilong Youth Development Committee has called for a general strike in Thoubal starting from 6 am on Monday until Chief Minister N Biren and BJP Manipur Pradesh president clarify on proper explanation over the BJP ticket not handed out to any of the intending candidates in Lilong AC.

In connection with the issue, irate BJP workers in Lilong burned down the BJP flag on Sunday afternoon in protest against the name of BJP candidate to Lilong AC being left out in the announcement.

Ahead of the upcoming by-election to five assembly constituencies in Manipur on November 7, the names of BJP candidates to four constituencies have been announced, except for the 30 Lilong assembly constituency under Thoubal district.

Reportedly, protestors came out and blocked the Imphal-Moreh road, to which police personnel resorted to firing tear gas cells to disperse the crowd and in an attempt to control the situation.

While speaking to the media persons, general secretary of All Lilong Youth Development Committee, NM Aziz Khan expressed his discontentment over the name of BJP candidate of Muslim minority predominantly populated Lilong AC being missed out while the names of BJP candidates for the remaining constituencies were already announced. He further warned of staging a series of agitation for not allowing the by-election until the matter is clarified to the public.
