The Assam Rifles has executed infrastructure development project for Mangkang Village, Chandel, said a release of the IGAR (S). The release stated that as part of its continuous efforts to extend assistance to the local population, Assam Rifles on Sunday completed the construction of a water reservoir tank at Mangkang Village, Chandel district as a part of Civic Action Programme 2020-2021. The water reservoir tank was handed over to village authorities in an inaugural function organised on October 10, it continued. “The construction of the water reservoir tank will alleviate the problem of water shortage faced by the villagers due to the remoteness of the location. The local populace expressed their gratitude for the efforts of Assam Rifles in their rehabilitation efforts,” added the release.
Assam Rifles recovers heroin concealed in bush
Assam Rifles recovered heroin powder worth Rs. 68 lakh which was concealed in a bush beside the track of Laiching to Kotak, in Chandel district on Sunday. A release issued from the IGAR (S) said that based on specific information, an AR team was able to recover the drug during an operation to intercept a shipment of drugs being smuggled across the border from Myanmar in Laiching area. The recovered heroin has been handed over to Chandel police station for further investigation, it added.
