Man arrested for assaulting, threatening COVID care members with revolver

The accused had admitted the charge levelled against him during interrogation.

Porompat police on Tuesday arrested a person for assaulting and threatening, COVID working committee members of Khurai assembly constituency, with their lives using a revolver.

Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East remanded the accused identified as Ph Phijam, 43, son of Ph Subadani of Khurai Puthiba Leikai into four days' police custody till October 8.

Police had arrested him under section 325/506 IPC and 27(1) Arms Act after a reliable information received from sources that on October 4 at about 8:20 pm, the accused had assaulted a member of the COVID working committee and threatened the others members of the committee by using his revolver.

Police has seized one revolver, three numbers of .32 bullets and one gun license issued by DM Imphal East from his possession.

The accused had admitted the charge levelled against him during interrogation and the police prayed for police custody remand for further investigation.
