COVID-19 cases in Manipur surge to 89 as six more test positive

Of the total 89 COVID-19 positive cases, 75 are active cases whereas 14 have recovered and discharged from hospitals, state health department stated.

The total number of positive cases in Manipur rose to 89 as six more persons tested positive for COVID-19, the state health department said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to a release issued by state health department spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, of the six new cases confirmed on Tuesday, two were confirmed at the VRDL of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal while four were found positive at the VRDL of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal.

The two cases confirmed at the VRDL, RIMS are Mumbai and Delhi returnees from Imphal West and Imphal East districts, respectively while of the four new cases confirmed at the VRDL, JNIMS, three are Delhi returnees and one is a Pune returnee, Dr Mangang stated.

Meanwhile, a 35-day-old boy, the youngest COVID-19 patient in Manipur, has recovered and discharged from the JNIMS hospital along with his mother and aunt on Tuesday after they tested negative twice, the state health department stated, adding that the recovery rate in the state is 16 per cent.

"They will continue home quarantine for the next 14 days. This will remain a landmark achievement for the state,” Dr Mangang stated.

Dr Mangang further stated that the conditions of the new COVID-19 patients are stable and are being shifted to Covid Care Facilities at RIMS and JNIMS. All precautionary measures such as containment and contact tracing are now in place, he added.

On Monday, five cases were reported in Manipur, taking the total number of COVID-19 positive cases to 83. Of the five cases reported on Sunday, four patients were Delhi returnees while one was a Chennai returnee.
