COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya is increasing, but the state is unlikely to impose further lockdown as Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said that the state cannot close down the economy and lockdown is no solution to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Lockdown is not really a solution, but only a mechanism to delay the spread of coronavirus. Therefore, the government will not enforce further lockdown... We cannot simply close down the economy," he told reporters after a review meeting in Shillong on Monday.
Emphasizing the fact that Coronavirus is here to stay, Conrad said that people should remain cautious and adapt to the new normal. He then announced the government decision to reopen the 12 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state.
COVID-19 in Meghalaya has registered a total of 4,733 positive cases and 38 deaths as per the latest updates on Tuesday. East Khasi Hills has reported the maximum number of positive cases at 3,039.
