Manipur COVID-19 death toll rises to 40; 160 more test positive

The total caseload in Manipur reached 7,362 on Wednesday.

COVID-19 tally in Manipur reached 7,362 as 160 new cases were confirmed on Wednesday while one patient Succumbed to the viral infection. Of the 160 new cases, 135 were from the general public and 25 personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), official sources said. 

The new cases include 52 from Imphal West, 12 from Bishnupur, 53 from Imphal East, five from Kangpokpi, five from Thoubal, four from Kaching, one from Ukhrul, three from Senapati. Only three new case are returnees from other states and the rest are locals with no travel history.

Death toll reached 40 as one 39-year-old died at JNIMS on Wednesday. As 64 persons were discharged in the past 24 hours, the cumulative recovered patients reached 5,548. The number of active cases is 1,774, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director and spokesperson Health Department, Manipur stated in a release.

The release further added, in order to strengthen surveillance, testing and also for implementation of Home Isolation for the asymptomatic positive cases in Imphal West and Imphal East, measures have been taken up by identifying seven doctors from Imphal West and five doctors along with three supporting staff from Imphal East.
