Manipur reports two more COVID-19 cases; total cases climb to 62

The new cases were reported from Churachandpur and Chandel districts who returned to the state from Chennai and Mumbai, respectively.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Manipur increased to 62 after a 44-year-old woman and 34-year-old man tested positive for the virus, state health department stated on Saturday.

The new cases were reported from Churachandpur and Chandel districts who returned to the state from Chennai and Mumbai, respectively.

The two cases were confirmed at the VRDL of JNIMS, Imphal and would be shifted to Covid Care Facility, state health department spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said in a statement.

As many as 580 samples were tested for COVID-19 on Saturday at VRDLs of RIMS and JNIMS, Mangang stated, adding that all 400 samples tested at the VRDLs of RIMS came negative. The other 180 samples were tested at the VRDL of JNIMS, of which two tested positive, the health department added.

On Friday, with four new COVID-19 cases, the total number of positive cases in the state stood at 59, the state health department stated.
