Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen, who is also the minister in-charge of Senapati and Kangpokpi for COVID-19, has urged the people of Senapati to prevent community spread of COVID-19 in the district.
The minister was chairing a review meeting at the conference hall of DC office, Senapati with district level officers of the district under the leadership of deputy commissioner, Th Kirankumar, District Medical Department, District Police and various civil society organisations in the presence of district nodal officer for COVID-19, Harekrishna.
Nemcha welcomed the newly posted deputy commissioner before taking stock of the situation with regards to measures and activities taken by the district administration, medical department and district police.
Kirankumar presented a PowerPoint demonstration on how the district has been combating the pandemic COVID-19 in collaboration with various CSOs including frontal organisations, student bodies, churches, village authorities and others.
While appreciating the tireless efforts of the frontline workers from the district administration, medical department, district police, CSOs and churches of the district, Nemcha exhorted them for escalating awareness on prevention of community spread in every nook and corner of the district.
She also emphasised on how to live with the pandemic COVID-19 and urged the people of Senapati to learn how to live the virus just like it is with HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Zika and other diseases. Learning how to live with the virus will change the lifestyle, which is one of the most important factors to overcome the deadly virus, she said.
She advised the people not to discriminate with those who have been infected by the virus rather show them humanity and give assistance whenever necessary to make them defeat the deadly virus. She further instructed the deputy commissioner to regulate appropriate law to take befitting action against whoever indulged in discriminating with COVID-19 positive patients and their families.
Nemcha also instructed the people to drink boil water at least four times a day, gargle with salt added boil water and strictly follow the SOPs given by WHO and ICMR to stay safe from COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the minister strongly emphasised on the recently launched ‘Nasha Mukh Campaign’ on Independence Day under the Social and Empowerment Ministry. She urged the people of Senapati to make the district a drug free district.
Harekrishna maintained that as perpetual lockdown is not possible, Manipur may begin its first unlock (after the third unlock in India) likely by September while cautioning that it is not the time for ‘Gale Milja’ in the state.
Later, Nemcha handed out five jerry cans of hypochlorite, full PPEs, gloves, masks, sanitizers, etc for the frontline workers at Mao gate and other strategic places including district administration, medical department, police, voluntary CSOs and others.
