The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has appealed to the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) to refund the examination fees of 5,329 candidates who paid a sum of Rs 2,100 each while applying for the HSLC compartmental examination, for which all the candidates were recently declared passed.
Under the prevailing circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state board on Monday declared the compartmental examination candidates promoted. It said there is a possibility of losing an academic year of the candidates if the examination is to be deferred further beyond August or early part of September.
The student body expressed its appreciation to the state board for granting promotion to the compartmental candidates. DESAM president N Edison said a sum of Rs 2,100 each was collected from the 5,329 candidates.
"Since the examination has not been conducted, it would be the correct move to refund the examination fees to the students,” he said.
The refunded money may provide a big help to the students hailing from poor families during this COVID-19 crisis.
In view of the prevailing situation, DESAM further appealed to the Council of Higher Education Manipur (COHSEM) to grant promotion for the Class XII compartmental candidates as well. The state government on July 28 approved to promote Class XI students to Class XII.
It was notified that the Class XI examination for the academic year 2019-20 has been done away in view of the COVID-19 situation and the student will be promoted based on the performance in terms tests.
