“Five officials of the High Court Registry have been tested COVID-19 positive and are under the advice of medical professionals and the State Health Department. These officials are asymptomatic and otherwise healthy,” Mawrie stated.

They are undergoing self-isolation at the High Court Guest House and are being monitored round the clock, the statement said.

“Owing to the nature of their duties, a thorough enquiry was conducted and after such enquiry, it has been ascertained and confirmed that they have not come into contact with any other person inside or outside the High Court,” it stated.

The statement also said that there are baseless rumours floating, particularly on social media that guests of the High Court have flouted COVID health protocol.

“All guests of the High Court have strictly adhered to the standard COVID health protocol as determined by the State Government, including getting themselves tested immediately on their arrival in Shillong and maintaining all quarantine/social distance norms, etc,” the Registrar General said.

The court has also warned all those who are responsible for spreading such rumours while adding that they will be proceeded against and appropriately dealt with in accordance with law, once they are identified.

The Registrar General further said that the need to sanitise the High Court premises arose since it is a public place and so that the strictest COVID health protocol is adhered to, not only in order to protect the officers and employees of the High Court, but also the members of the public at large.

Meanwhile, the High Court Administration has ordered a complete lockdown of the court premises for three days with effect from August 10 to August 12.
