The unemployment rate in the country under the Narendra Modi government is the highest it has ever seen in 45 years, the Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee has claimed.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahananda Nungleppam said that two out of every five young Indian are unemployed with no access to education.
There are more than five crore unemployed youth in the country in the last five years, said Nungleppam, quoting the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy.
In a video released by the Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee as a part of its 60th foundation day observation at the Congress Bhavan Imphal on Sunday, Nungleppam said that the unemployment rate in the country is the highest at 27.1 per cent as in May 2020.
According to the 2017-2018 reports by National Crime Records Bureau, more unemployed persons committed suicide with the toll crossing 24,000, said Nungleppam. He further said that such incidents occur due to the wrong governance in the states as well as the Centre.
The World Economic Situation and Prospects 2020 reports said over 40 per cent of Indians aged between 20 and 34 were Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) for the period between 2010 and 2018, he added.
