Coronavirus cases in Manipur rise to nine as two more returnees test positive

The two new cases, a 64-year-old mother and her 23-year-old daughter, returned from New Delhi. The samples of the two were tested at RIMS laboratory in Imphal.

Two more returnees in Manipur tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the number of active cases to seven and confirmed cases in the state to nine, the state health department said.

The two new cases, a 64-year-old mother and her 23-year-old daughter, returned from New Delhi. The samples of the two were tested at RIMS laboratory in Imphal.

The results which were received on Tuesday showed they were positive for coronavirus, state health department spokesman Sasheekumar Mangang said in a release.

They are being treated at Covid care facility at RIMS, the statement added.

They two returnees left Delhi by bus on May 14 and reached Imphal on May 16 along with other stranded passengers.

The other five active COVID-19 cases were also returnees from Mumbai and Chennai.

The first two Coronavirus active cases had recovered and discharged from hospital, the department stated.
